I know sometimes I don't listen to what others listen to. No popular radio stations for me. Most of the time I'd searched high and low on the Internet for something that can move me or at least have a bit of dignity to label itself as a song or an art form. But lately, I just indulge myself in some good tunes of yester years, stuffs that made things possible today like Soundgarden and Beatles, you know, things that everyday Malaysians who think Siti Nurhaliza iz da shiznit and kindergarten bands like Simple Plan and Good Charlotte are really hardcore don't really care to learn about.
Yea, I know, Baini said this is a blog about music, I mean, my idea of what is good and bad. So she might say; "Hah! I told you!!", if she wasn't so damn busy tonight that is. Really, you gotta give the girl some credits for doing what she does, dealing with all the bullshits and IQ bawah tapak kaki and such.
So...
Baini's busy. Bogus, Taufik and Awin are on leave for various reason. I have no work. So I have to post this.
Like I said earlier, I need something different and my need for something that sounds different doesn't limit itself to the music I listen to. I want it to sound different. I mean the sound. I don't use regular sound system, not if I can help it at least. Speaker dalam Iswara tu still standard jugak... tak mampu bai.
The only time I ever allow myself to own a regular radio/cassette player was back in 2004. CD and MP3 technology was already booming, but I insisted on buying that Sanyo cassette player, much to the Salesman's dissapoinment. Yup, I could tell. But I really wanted that Sanyo because it had a fairly rare line-in sockets, for a small size unit.
I used that for my Astro, to have a stereo sound when watching TV. My Samsung TV was mono btw. And I used that for my DVD player as well. And my PC.
Ok, I also owned an Enzer 5.1ch set of speakers. But rarely did I use it on its own. I used both my Enzer and my Sanyo together, to have a tricked-out sound. Together means having the sound travel through the Sanyo first, and then the Enzer.
Back when I was bujang, my mom didn't dare to enter my room because I had wires everywhere. On the floor, crossing the room from wall to wall and under the bed. Sounds and lights were turning the room into something else. I had a wonderland of my own back then. A wonderland so exclusive to myself, with the thick and heavy smell of smoke and tobacco and such.
What I had was actually a sound system that I made using a RM25.00 equalizer from Brothers, an adaptor, a walkman, several big and small boxes, and some electronic parts taken out of my dad's old ECE TV from 1978. And yeah, several tiny light bulbs and switches as well.
Sounds were coming from my bedside next to where I laid my head, from the panel next to where I perform my prayer, from the cabinet on the wall facing me and of course under the bed. I wish I can show you the picture but I can't seem to find it. Macam haram, nasib baik bunyi exclusive.
By the time I was busy with my wedding preparation in KL, mom threw away the whole unit and according to my sister, she burnt every last piece of cardboard box to ashes. Sedih gila. But then, I was about to get married, had to let go of those kinda things.
The thing is, old habits die hard. Being married, I have to cut down on forms of entertainment that can only entertain myself. My CDs are to be played in the car when there's only me in the car. The rest of my huge collection of MP3s can only be played at work. Yes, they do allow people to use headphones here. Explains why I'm still here after 4++ years.
So, folks, here is a picture of what I came out with recently. A toned-down version of my past glory (konon).
Dell technology + Philips casing, developed by me = MY SOUND. All mine. Bunyi macam gampang but it's all mine.
MP3 player can be replaced by a discman, or even sambung kat Astro kalau berani.
Next time aku nak try kotak besar bagak tapi still pakai speaker tu. Camne la agaknya bunyinya nanti. Aku tau kat Sect 2 Shah Alam ada jual RM12.00.
